Ronan Keating to star at Durrell charity ball

The Jewels of Assam event is scheduled to take place at the Royal Jersey Showground on 18 September, with tables of ten costing £5,000.

The evening will celebrate Durrell’s efforts to rewild the grasslands of Assam in northern India, an area which is home to species such as tigers and rhinos. The project also has a focus on saving the world’s smallest pig, the pygmy hog.

Dr Lesley Dickie, the chief executive of Durrell, said: ‘The Investec Jewels of Assam ball will be a colourful and uplifting evening to celebrate 50 years of our work in Assam. We will transform the showground to bring the incredible Indian wilderness to life.

‘At a time when India faces huge challenges, our work protecting this beautiful ecosystem and supporting the people that live there is more important than ever.’

Mr Keating, who rose to fame with Boyzone in the 1990s, has previous links with the Island, having appeared in the film Another Mother’s Son, which tells the story of Jersey Occupation heroine Louisa Gould, who took in an escaped Russian prisoner of war.

Pop legends Sister Sledge headlined the event in 2019 to celebrate Durrell’s 60th year, while two years earlier Take That took to the stage.
