Architectural and design company MSPlanning said that a public exhibition featuring proposals for the Seaside Café – which was sold by the Lewis family last year – will take place at the site this weekend from 10am today until 4pm tomorrow, with plans and CGI visuals on display as well as a QR code which Islanders can use to give feedback on the project.
The proposals would see the existing café and residential units replaced with a beach-themed café, and a separate building set within a ‘dunescape’ environment. Additionally, the private car park would be reduced in size with improvements to sustainable transport services made, including a bus stop shelter and charging points for electric cars.
And, if approved, a new disabled pedestrian access link connecting the bus stop to the beach promenade would also be introduced, while the listed bunker would be restored and become a ‘standalone’ structure.
MSPlanning said that the intention behind the designs was to reconnect the surrounding landscape and enhance the ecology of the site, and that the setting of listed buildings in the area such as the Grève de Lecq barracks would also be enhanced, along with improved views through the site to the foreshore.
The north-coast site had been in the Lewis family’s ownership since the early 1970s.
