Photography competition for children

Islanders aged 18 and under have until 31 August to submit their entries to the contest – sponsored by wealth management firm Brewin Dolphin’s Channel Islands branch – for the chance to win £500, as well as have their photo included in an exhibition and feature on the 2022 JSPCA Animals’ Shelter calendar.

‘We have decided on two subjects for the photos,’ said Michelle Parker, the shelter’s public relations, media and fundraising manager.

‘There’s “Picture Perfect Pets”, where we want to see all manner of domestic animals in their home environment, and there’s “Wild About Wildlife”, which is all about getting out and about for weekend walks and enjoying the natural beauty around us and hopefully snapping some of our wonderful local wildlife.’

The competition is split into three different age categories – under 11 years, 11 to 13 years old and 14 to 18 years old. Contestants can enter up to ten images for each category, with a cost of £3 per photo entry.

Mark Miles, head of office for Brewin Dolphin, Jersey, said: ‘The JSPCA’s Young Photographer Competition is a great initiative for a good cause, which will bring budding photographers together – at the very least virtually. The interesting themes of ‘Picture Perfect Pets’ and ‘Wild About Wildlife’ will capture the balance between our beloved domestic pets and the wonderful wildlife to be found in the Channel Islands. We are thrilled to be sponsoring this initiative, and look forward to seeing the array of creative, young talent that will emerge.’

Islanders can email michelle@jspca.org.je for entry forms and the full list of rules. Full details of the competition will also be added to the JSPCA Animals’ Shelter Facebook page.
