Non-essential shops to reopen next week – if case numbers remain steady

At a press conference this evening, the Chief Minister, Health Minister and Economic Development Minister will outline a cautious approach to reopening businesses, and reveal details of enhanced financial support being offered to Jersey firms.

In a statement, the ministers said: ‘Scientific and medical experts met on Monday to consider the current data, and to analyse the impact of the Christmas period and the reopening of schools.

‘They presented their findings and advice to Competent Authority Ministers [on Wednesday] and ministers discussed whether it would be appropriate to move to the second stage of reconnection.

‘They have agreed that, with the data currently in front of them, they can give indicative opening dates of January 27th for non-essential retail and February 3rd for close contact businesses including hair and beauty etc. These decisions remain subject to continued review of the positive case numbers.

‘Further details of this process, and the enhanced financial support, will be discussed with States Members before a press conference at 7pm.’
