GPs take over Co-op Medical Care

The practice, which has surgeries in St Helier, St Clement and St Peter, will be taken over by a consortium of the current GPs.

The Co-op first moved into the medical care business in 2014 but announced earlier this year that it was consulting over the future of the operation as it had become unsustainable to run. Mark Cox, chief executive of the Co-op, said he was delighted with the move.

‘It was always our preference to hand the reins to our own team as we have absolute confidence in their dedication, passion and professionalism. This takeover ensures that our patients will continue to receive the same high standards of care, delivered by a familiar team.’

Dr Brian Ellis, of First Medical, said: ‘I’d like to say how pleased we are to be able to continue delivering high standards of medical care to our current patients from all three practice sites.’

All Islanders who are registered with Co-operative Medical Care have received a letter informing them of the changes, and will be automatically registered with First Medical.
