Final year for Victoria College headmaster

Alun Watkins, who took up the role in September 2010, wrote to staff, parents and governors on the eve of the half-term holiday to confirm that he will be retiring next summer.

A Government of Jersey spokesperson said: ‘We would like to acknowledge Mr Watkins’ 40 years’ service to education, including his decade at Victoria College. Any further communications will be issued closer to Mr Watkins’ retirement.’

Prior to moving to Jersey ten years ago and succeeding previous head Robert Cook, Mr Watkins was deputy head at Abingdon School in Oxfordshire.

Born in Newport, Wales, Mr Watkins studied at both Exeter and Oxford Universities before taking up a teaching role at Downside School, near Bath. He played top-flight rugby for Bath RFC in the early 1980s.
