GST de minimis to drop

The changes to the de minimis level were part of the government’s three-year plan, which was agreed by the States Assembly at the end of 2019. The alterations were due to come into effect from 1 July but were delayed following the Covid-19 outbreak.

The de minimis level was reduced to enable local businesses to better compete with online retailers.

Murray Norton, chief executive of the Jersey Chamber of Commerce, urged Islanders to use the change to support local businesses.

‘Making the change from 1 October will afford local retailers the best opportunity of securing a good quarter’s sales in the run-up to Christmas. Jersey Chamber of Commerce urges all Islanders to support local retailers as much as they can in these unprecedented times.’
