Police officers complete UK training

The course – held in Norfolk – ended with the 11 officers taking part in a passing-out ceremony.

The initial training course covers essential training on a range of issues that a police constable would be expected to deal with including public order, drunkenness, domestic abuse, drugs, traffic, managing arrested people, and managing victims and witnesses, as well as other core skills.

The 11-strong members of the group were sworn in as police officers in the Royal Court in April. They had been due to start the training in Norfolk immediately after their swearing-in but this was delayed as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, with the cohort receiving a reduced training package in Jersey instead.

Jersey’s police chief Robin Smith congratulated the group on having now completed the full initial training course and said he was looking forward to seeing them return to the Island.

Chief Inspector Mark Hafey also congratulated the group on social media, saying: ‘Congratulations to these @JerseyPolice officers who have all passed ten weeks of training @NorfolkPolice.

‘Thank you @InspSelvarajah and your training team. Looking forward to seeing our new officers back in Jersey as they start ten weeks of tutoring. Good luck all.’

PC Ben Casson – a former army major and press officer for the States police – was awarded the baton of merit, an award introduced in 2017 that is given to the top student on each course.
