Health Department data to be published

In an effort to improve efficiency and become more ‘transparent’ about delays, work has been done to improve the data that is available to the public.

It is hoped that the new system will provide more accurate information than has previously been published and enable Islanders to see a comprehensive breakdown of each unit’s performance, including typical waiting times for procedures and tests, the number of admissions and other key metrics.

Health Minister Richard Renouf said: ‘Since I came into office I have said that I wanted to be transparent about our waiting lists and release so much more data.

‘The difficulty was that we weren’t in a good place as a department and last year we had to suspend publication of the waiting lists because we didn’t have great faith that they reflected the true picture.

‘I’m very pleased with the work that the team has done, because now we have up-to-date and accurate figures for people who are waiting and we can use these figures to drive performance within the hospital.

‘The figures that were published before were lacking and not completely reliable. We have a process now in place which is updated daily and everyone’s following the same procedures.

‘It’s good to confidently say that these are the figures – it might not be a figure that we are happy with, but we now know our position, and the work we have to do to improve it.’
