Announcement on potential restart of Condor services between Jersey and St Malo expected imminently

The company was forced to halt its services in March following the outbreak of Covid-19 and had planned to re-commence its operations to the Brittany city on 3 July – the day the Island’s borders reopened.

However, the port’s stevedore company, SMM, went into liquidation in June with the loss of 32 jobs.

Following this, employees marched across the city in protest and vowed to prevent any ship from docking in the port until all workers had their roles reinstated.

But in an email to all customers, Paul Luxon, chief executive of Condor, has now revealed that talks aimed at resolving the situation had been constructive and they were hoping to operate crossings to St Malo from 17 July as planned.

‘We have just been informed that the meeting held earlier this afternoon (15 July) has concluded and it would appear that it was constructive, with some positive progress, resulting in a final meeting tomorrow (16 July) morning,’ he said.

‘We remain committed to restarting our St Malo passenger services from Friday 17 July as scheduled, and are ready to do so, subject to the resolution discussed being finalised.’

An update is expected this afternoon.
