Jersey’s borders to reopen on Friday

The decision to back ministerial plans, which came during the evening following a long debate, will enable all non-essential travel to resume from Friday.

It will come as a major relief to the Island’s hospitality industry, which last week said that giving the green-light for the borders to reopen may salvage its summer season.

During a passionate debate that highlighted a wide range of views among elected representatives, many Members focused on Scrutiny proposals to delay the reopening of borders by one week to Friday 10 July.

That amendment, and several others lodged by Scrutiny, were defeated.
