A total of 37% of Islanders in Jersey surveyed by polling firm Island Global Research felt their government has dealt with the crisis well, compared to 69% in the Isle of Man and 87% in Guernsey.

The survey found that respondents from all three islands felt more comfortable than if they were living in the UK, however.

‘The level of threat on our islands has been reducing over time, with respondents in Guernsey and the Isle of Man less concerned than those in Jersey,’ it says.

‘We continue to be more positive about the level of threat to our islands than to the UK.

‘We are also more optimistic about when normal life will be resumed on our islands than we are about the UK.’

The survey also found that 45% of Jersey residents would like to form a travel bubble with Guernsey, while just 14% of Sarnians felt the same way.

Meanwhile, a large majority of Jersey residents would feel comfortable about meeting family and friends (74%) once the lockdown is fully lifted.

And 50% said that they would be happy to go shopping for non-essential items again, while just 16% of respondents said they would not.

But 64% of Islanders surveyed said that they would not want to go to a bar or nightclub once restrictions were lifted, and 63% indicated that they would not be comfortable going to ‘public, music or sporting events’.

A total of 48% said that they would be reluctant to go to a gym or indoor leisure centre, while just under a quarter said that they would be comfortable doing so.

The latest survey was completed by 1,436 residents in the Crown Dependencies: 481 in Jersey, 547 in Guernsey and 408 in the Isle of Man.

The reports have been carried out weekly on various issues during the coronavirus pandemic.
