The stamps explore aspects of the annual Liberation Day celebrations including the veterans’ parade, the processing of the royal mace and entertainers at Weighbridge Place

Chris Elliott, philatelic design and production manager at Jersey Post, explained that they wanted to celebrate the importance of Jersey’s national day to the people of the Island.

‘Creating illustrations with echoes of 1940s poster style, the stamps show how the liberation continues to be celebrated by the people of Jersey; of course the formal ceremonies and re-enactments, but also the spirit and joy of the gift of freedom that our community is so fortunate to cherish today,’ he said.

The stamps’ designers, True North, were given a brief to find a new way of depicting the Island celebrations and worked with illustrator Charlie Davis to evoke the key moments of the ceremony which has become an annual part of Jersey’s calendar.

Jersey Post is also issuing 75 strictly limited-edition, solid silver souvenir coins to mark the anniversary. The coin depicts the joy of freedom following Liberation, while the reverse features the emblem of the troops that liberated the Island, together with Churchill’s celebrated words: ‘…and our dear Channel Islands are also to be freed today.’

The Liberation 75 stamps will be available from branches of Jersey Post from 9 May, while philatelic stamp products such as First Day Covers and Presentation Packs will be available from post offices at Broad Street, St Helier, and Rue des Pres on issue day.
