Jade Hamon (45) appeared in the Magistrate’s Court via video link this afternoon.
Crown Advocate Chris Baglin – appearing remotely from his home – told the court that a States police officer was patrolling the area of the Millennium Town Park on Saturday at 3.30pm when they spotted the defendant drinking lager with another person.
The court heard the officer spoke to Hamon but he would ‘not comply with the regulations’ and was arrested.
Advocate Adam Harrison, defending, said that his client had gone out to meet a companion – who was struggling with mental health issues – for a walk through town, as part of his permitted two hours of exercise.
But after the walk, Hamon and the other person decided to drink in the park, while abiding by the social distancing guidelines.
He added however, that his client accepts he should not have agreed to this.
Hamon admitted one count of breaching article five of the Covid-19 (Screening, Assessment and Isolation) (Jersey) Regulations 2020 in relation to being in a public place.
In sentencing, Assistant Magistrate Peter Harris, warned Hamon that the coronavirus pandemic was a ‘serious matter’ and that he was not ‘fireproof’ from the disease. He fined him £500.
