Guinea pigs thief jailed for 12 weeks

Danielle Pritchard (26) appeared in the Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday after pleading guilty to breaking into Pets Paradise – opposite The People’s Park – on 20 January 2020 and stealing guinea pigs and pet harnesses.

She also pleaded guilty to stealing a laptop and tobacco from an address in St Peter’s School Estate on 21 January, committing an assault in Wellington Park on 1 March 2020 and driving with a breath-alcohol reading of 53mg in 100ml of breath on 1 March 2020. The legal limit is 35mg.

Pritchard also entered guilty pleas to a charge of failing to change her driving licence address on the same date and breaching probation and community service orders.

Assistant Magistrate Peter Harris sentenced Pritchard to 12 weeks in prison, disqualified her from driving for 18 months and ordered her to pay £400.45 in compensation.

Magistrate’s Court hearings are currently being conducted without members of the press or public present in an effort to protect court staff from the coronavirus.
