Fifth arrest following sudden death of 19-year-old

In an update on Sunday the force said that a 20-year-old man had been arrested just before midnight on Saturday and was in police custody. Four other people – three men and one woman aged between 17 and 26 – earlier arrested on suspicion of supplying drugs have been released on bail pending further investigations.

In a statement, the States police described it as a ‘dynamic and fast moving investigation’. They also reiterated a public warning against taking MDMA.

‘States of Jersey Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a 19-year-old male in St Lawrence during the early hours of 15 February 2020 as a result of suspected MDMA consumption. Family liaison officers continue to work with and support the family.

‘This remains a dynamic and fast moving investigation. Detectives continue to work hard in order to secure evidence and to ensure the ongoing safety of our Island community.

‘We reinforce the joint public health message issued on Saturday and warning against the consumption of MDMA – anyone feeling unwell who has taken drugs should seek immediate medical assistance. There have been no associated admissions to the hospital overnight.’
