Van driver punched in the face outside supermarket

A VAN driver was punched in the face through his open window near the Grand Marché in St Helier, the States police say.

A 49-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of grave and criminal assault and released on bail pending further inquiries.

A force spokeswoman said at 1.45pm on Tuesday a man in his 40s was driving a VW Transporter into the entrance of the Grand Marché car park when he stopped to let pedestrians cross. Another man approached the van from behind and hit it with his hands. When the driver spoke to him, the police say he was punched in the face and suffered 'some damage to his teeth'.

Witnesses or anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage is urged to contact the police on 612612 or call Crimestoppers on 0800555111.
