New Health director general is appointed

Caroline Landon, who is currently working as the chief operating officer and deputy chief executive for the Gloucester Hospitals NHS Foundations Trust, is due to take up her new post in Jersey during the new year.

She will replace Anthony McKeever, who held the position on an interim basis.

Speaking about her appointment, she said: ‘Public services in Jersey are going through significant change and none more so than in Health and Community Services and the debate over the new hospital and preparing to care for an ageing population.

‘I am excited about the challenges ahead, including improving health care delivery, putting a greater emphasis on preventative health and mental-health care services and working more effectively with the range of partners in the private, voluntary and community sectors.’

Meanwhile, Health Minister Richard Renouf said that Ms Landon’s 28 years of experience would be very useful.

‘Caroline’s proven track record as an accomplished executive within the UK health service will be a real asset to us as we implement our new model of health care for Jersey, which will be led by clinical professionals and supported by a modern, effective, efficient and restructured Health and Community Services.’

According to the States, Ms Landon’s appointment was made following a combination of face-to-face interviews and extensive evidence-based technical and psychometric assessments.

They added that she was appointed unanimously by the interview panels, which included subject matter experts and independent Jersey panel members.
