Harry Potter spin-off includes Jersey actor

Joshua Shea is playing a younger version of Eddie Redmayne’s character, Newt Scamander, in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald – the second film in the franchise.

It is Joshua’s first major silverscreen role. Previously he played the part of Devin in an episode of the E!
Television show The Royals, starring Elizabeth Hurley.

Betty Cadoret, the manager of the Jersey West End Experince, which runs week-long courses for Islanders from the age of eight to 18, described the aspiring young actor as a ‘shining star’, adding that he ‘will go far’.

She added: ‘He was a delightful student and soaked up everything he was taught like a sponge.

‘Josh is a great all-rounder. He’s a great actor, singer and dancer.

‘He was always highly praised by everyone who taught him.’

Entertainment Weekly published still pictures from the film, which revealed that the former Hautlieu student was playing a young Newt. Describing some of the publicity shots, the magazine said: ‘We see Professor Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) and an alarmed-looking Newt Scamander (Joshua Shea) at Hogwarts in a flashback scene from the upcoming Harry Potter-verse film.’

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is due to be released on 16 November.
