£250,000 given out to local charities

Grants ranged from £1,500 up to as much as £50,000 and will be used for a variety of projects including building new facilities and hiring staff.

Members of the association that were successful in their application include – Silkworth Lodge, who were awarded £50,000 to fund a large building improvement project; Jersey Marine Conservation, who will receive £45,000 over three years to monitor sub-tidal species and their habitats; and Headway, who were given £30,000 for part-time staff salaries.

The maximum grant members can apply for in any financial year is £50,000. But changes to the association rules means from January 2019, charities will be able to make requests for £90,000, to be paid in one go to spend over three consecutive years. A new small grants fund will also allow certain small charities (with no paid staff) to apply for up to £3,000 through a much simpler application process.

Association officers also approved three new members at their last quarterly meeting, these included Samaj Ltd, the Jersey Lifeboat Association and Quennevais Evangelical Church.
