Henry Cavill to star in fantasy TV series

The Hollywood star – best known for playing Superman – will take the lead role of Geralt of Rivia in eight-part series The Witcher.

Based on the best-selling fantasy book series, The Witcher follows Geralt, a monster hunter with supernatural abilities, as he battles various beasts.

In a press statement, Netflix say: ‘The Witcher is an epic tale of fate and family. Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts.

‘But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile continent together.’

The series is based on a series of fantasy novels and short stories by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. It has already been turned into a highly successful video games series.

Mr Cavill has recently starred in Mission Impossible – Fallout and was previously part of The Tudors TV series. His latest film project, Nomis – in which he stars alongside Sir Ben Kingsley and Stanley Tucci – is set for release later this year.

The Witcher is expected to be released in 2020.
