Endurance swimmer raises more than £12,000 for care home

Sally Minty-Gravett completed her double Channel swim from England to France and back again in 2016 in aid of Jersey Cheshire Home, and now it has been confirmed that she raised a total of £12,368 for the organisation.

She was in the water for 36 hours and 26 minutes and said she was ‘absolutely delighted’ to make the donation. In total she received more than £18,000 in sponsorship, with a third of the money going to the RNLI. Jersey Cheshire Home provides a permanent home for 25 residents as well as a range of rehabilitation services – such as hydrotherapy and physiotherapy – to roughly 400 Islanders a month.

The home’s head of physiotherapy, Steve Martin, said: ‘It is a significant amount of money and we are very grateful.’

The money will be put towards a £2-million extension and refurbishment that will increase the number of residents the home can accommodate.
