New grades, better results

A total of 24.6 per cent of exams taken resulted in a grade 7 [A] or higher, 0.3 per cent higher than last year. A total of 77 per cent resulted in a grade 4 [C] or higher – 6.4 per cent higher than last year.

This year, 903 students were entered for a total of 6,924 GCSEs or International GCSEs, and recorded an overall pass rate of 99.1 per cent.

For the first time all GCSE results were graded numerically with 9 being equivalent to a high A* and 1 being equivalent to an F or a G. Around 90 per cent of courses also now feature more difficult content and are marked mostly on final exams rather than coursework.

Yesterday, Les Quennevais announced its best results on record, Beaulieu recorded a 100 per cent pass rate and Haute Vallée released its best results since 2011.

Stuart Hughes, headteacher at Haute Vallée, said that he was extremely proud of all his students who had worked hard to secure their results.

‘This reflects the high ambitions and expectations of the school. I wish all students the very best for their future journeys,’ he said. ‘Thank you to the staff and parents for your dedication, determination and support. This success would not have happened without you.’
