New chief executive for St Helier

New chief executive for St Helier

Jason Turner, who is currently the deputy chief officer and director of finance and information in the Health Department, is due to take up the role in October.

Mr Turner was appointed following a recruitment process overseen by the Jersey Appointments Commission.

In a statement, the parish of St Helier said that more than a dozen candidates applied for the position and that interviews from a shortlist took place last month.

The statement added: ‘The executive role has been carried out by the Constable for over 15 years but last month Mr Crowcroft said that it was the right time to employ an appropriately qualified and experienced local professional to fulfil the role.

‘He has pledged that staff costs will not rise as a result of the appointment, which will be funded by compensatory savings.’

Some of the responsibilities of the role of chief executive include managing a turnover of more than £15 million annually as well as the 258 full-time staff who are employed by St Helier.

Mr Crowcroft has told the JEP previously that he hopes the new post will also allow him to better focus on the ‘political battles that are still there to be fought’ on behalf of St Helier, including getting a better deal for the parish from the States.
