Hospital plans revised

Hospital plans revised

The revisions, submitted by the Future Hospital Project team, were made in response to comments received from the public, the Growth, Housing and Environment Department and the Jersey Architecture Commission.

The amendments mostly relate to heritage, planning and transport issues and are intended to make the plans clearer and to improve the scheme.

An outline planning application was submitted in April after the previous States Assembly approved the location, the budget and the method of funding for the facility.

Earlier this year the former Environment Minister, Deputy Steve Luce, rejected initial plans to rebuild the hospital on its present
site due to the proposed size of the building and the impact it would have on the townscape.

Changes made to the latest application include adding more information about the external design of the building and reducing its height on Savile Street and behind the listed granite hospital building.

The amendments to the plans will be available to view on the planning register.

Meanwhile, a further discussion forum for people living and working near Jersey’s proposed new hospital is due to be held on Wednesday 1 August from 6 pm to 8 pm at St Paul’s Centre.

About 50 people attended a similar neighbourhood forum recently, where a number of issues were raised including road safety, parking for nearby residents, traffic, potential noise disturbances and the risk of structural impact on neighbouring properties.

At the next meeting, the Future Hospital Project team intends to respond to the issues raised and report on the scheme’s progress.

More details can be obtained by emailing the team at futurehospital@gov.je or via the website futurehospital.je.
