New live music addition to this year’s Battle of Flowers events

The new segment, entitled the ‘Little Gig in Lower Park’, will take place on Thursday afternoon from 4.30 pm until 8.30 pm following the day parade, and again on Friday evening in the lead-up to the Moonlight Parade.

With just two weeks to go until the event, work on the arena along Victoria Avenue is under way, with the towers on the central reservation already built. Delivery and construction of the grandstands and seating, which has been sponsored by Condor Ferries, is due to begin next Tuesday.

The Funtazia Funfair is due to be officially opened at the People’s Park on Friday at 2 pm by Battle Ambassador Arcadia Lockhart and Junior Battle Ambassador Tobias Hosking. The attraction will remain open until 12 August.

This year 24 floats will be taking part across the two days and the parades will feature a range of themes including 1940s nostalgia, World War remembrance, global discovery, fairy tales and flamboyant carnivals.

Jackie Donald, events director for the Battle of Flowers, said that preparations were going according to plan.

‘With just a couple of weeks to go until the big day itself things are really beginning to come together and we are confident of another memorable parade,’ she said.

‘As always, there is a great buzz and excitement in the air at this stage and even with the expected last-minute nerves and deadlines looming I am sure Jersey will once again deliver a spectacle to be proud of.’

Parishes and organisations across the Island are putting the finishing touches to the structures of their floats with the flowers due to be added at the beginning of August.
