He was elected by a margin of 11 votes, beating the previous post-holder, Senator Ian Gorst, 30 – 19.

In Monday’s first sitting of the new House, Members first heard speeches by the two candidates before both men separately faced questions from the Chamber.

The House is due to reconvene on Thursday, when Members will begin to fill the roles on the Council of Ministers, as well as populating various committees and Scrutiny panels.
