Jersey Met launch a new hourly service

The new map, which has been created by forecasters following feedback from the public, will show detail for three regions: the English Channel, Channel Islands and the Bay of St Malo.

Jersey Met forecasters Aimee Reading and Agatha Plunkett worked with the States digital team on the improvements.

John Searson, principal meteorologist for Jersey Met, said the map would benefit Islanders planning on going out on their boats, kayaks and other craft but also those checking the conditions before boarding a ferry.

‘It is important to stress that the maps must be used in conjunction with the Channel Islands Shipping Forecast – the official forecast for Channel Island waters,’ he said.

‘Jersey Met forecasters carefully analyse many computer models to make sure they are consistent with real weather and use their experience to adjust the shipping forecast and issue wind warnings based on much more detail, which in turn keeps the community safe.’

The new maps can be accessed by visiting gov.je/Weather and following the links to ‘wind and wave map’.
