This week, workers have been using a large crane to lower into position pre-fabricated Portakabin units that have been shipped to the Island from the UK.
A design brief, compiled by Waddington Architects when plans for the project were submitted, states: ‘The business continuity offices are designed only to be used in emergency situations, at short notice and for short periods of time. In all other times of operation these offices remain vacant.’
According to a planning application lodged by JT in 2013, the company also has approval to construct an extension to an existing building on the St Saviour site to accommodate a new data centre and business continuity suites.
The design brief adds: ‘Should the full redevelopment proceed, these office “pods” could be decommissioned and craned out offsite and reused elsewhere.’
The temporary two-storey offices boast a number of features including a disabled lift and air conditioning.
