Marathon runner sets sights on two endurance events in a week

Later this month the mother-of-four will attempt to run two marathons in a week – just months before her 50th birthday.

The 49-year-old, who is a social worker with Fostering and Adoption Jersey, is due to run the Brighton Marathon on 15 April and the London Marathon on 22 April.

Her husband, Lee, doubled for Daniel Craig in Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace and has stepped in for Matt Damon in the Bourne films, Shia LaBeouf in the latest Indiana Jones movie and Angelina Jolie in Tomb Raider.

Mrs Morrison will be raising money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust to help fund research into the debilitating condition, which her eldest daughter, Jessica, was diagnosed with as a baby.

Cystic fibrosis sufferers experience a build-up of thick, sticky mucus that can cause chronic lung infections and progressive lung damage.

This week Jessica – who met Princess Diana as a child while at the Royal Brompton Hospital in Chelsea – was rushed to hospital by air ambulance because of breathing difficulties. She is due to be there while her mother – who said the latest admission to hospital showed the very real
difficulties people with the condition face every day – runs the first of her marathons.

‘Jessica is my oldest child and obviously we had to spend a lot of time ensuring she took her medicines and did physio. Now, at 28, she has a lung capacity of just under 50 per cent,’ said Mrs Morrison, who turns 50 on 2 July.

‘When she was little she did all the same things that other kids did and we worked hard to make sure she had a normal childhood. She has also travelled widely to places like Australia, Thailand and Sri Lanka as a young adult and strives to live life to the full.

‘But in the back of our minds we know just what cystic fibrosis does and we need to help improve medicine and treatment. The Cystic Fibrosis Trust has done so much in this area.’

She added: ‘Since Jessica was born, there has been amazing improvements in treatment for cystic fibrosis, but it is still a very debilitating condition that sees people live shorter lives than they should.

‘I want to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust because they are the main organisation pushing forward and funding research in the UK.’

Mrs Morrison has previously run the London, New York and Amsterdam marathons – but with 18 months in between.
