Housing Minister to stand down in May

Deputy Pryke was first elected in 2005 before serving three further terms in her home parish.

In 2009 she was appointed Health Minister before moving to head up the Housing Department in 2014.

She was recently appointed as Acting Education Minister after Deputy Rod Bryans stood down from the role while an investigation is carried out into his conduct.

Deputy Pryke faced her first contested election in 2014, retaining her seat by just 16 votes.

She said: ‘Over the past 13 years, I have had the privilege to serve my parish and my Island as Deputy of Trinity.

‘After a great deal of consideration, I have decided not to seek re-election I feel the time is right to spend time with my family, friends and my church.

‘I also look forward to having more time to get involved within the community. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in office and I would like to thank all those who have supported me over the years.

‘I would also like to thank my States Members colleagues and especially the staff I have had the privilege to work with, who are dedicated to giving the best service for our Island.’
