Dr Rupa Huq – a Labour MP for Ealing Central and Acton – and political activist and councillor Lesley Mansell will be speaking at the event, which is being organised by the Reform Jersey party.
Reform Jersey member Deputy Montfort Tadier said: ‘We are delighted to welcome two outstanding women from the world of politics for this special seminar to mark International Women’s Day.
‘One hundred years on from UK women winning the right to vote, there has of course been much progress.
‘However, women remain constantly under-represented in politics, senior leadership roles and in the judiciary. Many of the barriers are invisible, as well as practical.
‘We believe that party politics can play a crucial role in supporting and empowering women to find their political voice and this will be one of the themes explored in the seminar.’
Dr Huq was first elected as an MP in 2015 before securing a 16,000-vote majority in last year’s snap election, while Ms Mansell narrowly lost out on becoming the first West of England Mayor last year.
The event is being held at 6.30 pm and tickets cost £12.
Ticket information can be found on eventbrite.co.uk, or by contacting Deputy Tadier by email (m.tadier@gov.je) or by calling 491194.
