Alderney becomes iceberg after heavy snowfall

Earlier this week, the northerly isle was hit by 48 hours of showers, which moved down across the English Channel and dumped more than five inches of snow across the island. The Airport was shut and roads were left impassible following what turned out to be the heaviest snowfall the island has seen for at least five years.

Guernsey was also peppered with snow showers on Monday and Tuesday, but Jersey, which has greater protection from Normandy, only saw a few flurries.

And the disruption in Alderney worsened on Thursday, when bands of snow moved north out of France, depositing several centimetres across all the Channel Islands. In total, Alderney had about six inches of snow with drifts of over one foot.
