King Street book launch for YouTube superstar Islander

Chris Dixon, known to millions of fans as ChrisMD, has written Thrills, Skills and Molehills – a 180-page account of his career, football background and ‘Sunday League’ experiences.

The 21-year-old YouTube star will be appearing at official signing events in Manchester and London before meeting Jersey fans at WHSmith in King Street on 25 February.

‘I’m so pleased to be holding this event in Jersey, where people have always been hugely supportive from day one,’ said Mr Dixon.

‘What I really wanted to do was write the kind of book about football that I’ve always wanted to read myself, and I really think we’ve managed that. There are insights into the life of a YouTuber, football challenges for readers to carry out, chapters on my best videos and loads more. Some of my favourite parts are the tongue-in-cheek analysis of the crucial elements of Sunday League football, such as the Socks That Never Match and the Stand-In Goalkeeper – my co-writer and I had a great laugh coming up with those.’

Mr Dixon has been running his YouTube channel from his St John bedroom since 2011, when he first began uploading videos of himself playing football computer games. He now has 3.8 million subscribers and is listed among the top 60 most popular YouTubers in the UK.

In the last few years he has filmed exclusive videos with international footballers Cristiano Ronaldo, Alexis Sanchez, Cesc Fabregas, and accompanied Manchester City on a trip to Abu Dhabi, where he filmed football challenges with players Leroy Sané, Raheem Sterling and Kevin de Bruyne.

Mr Dixon penned the book, published by Penguin Random House, with JEP features editor Ramsay Cudlipp, who has played alongside him at St John FC for the last few years.

‘Anyone who knows Chris’s videos will be aware of his great sense of humour and light-hearted approach to life,’ said Mr Cudlipp.

‘This book is very much written in Chris’s voice and his fans will really enjoy getting to know him better.’

Staying true to his video roots, Mr Dixon has also included exclusive online content in the book – which can be accessed via QR codes, allowing readers to scan pages of the book and instantly watch special clips and videos.
