Five reports of various different scams have been reported involving text messages and emails asking Islanders for confidential information.

It is understood that customers of several banks have been affected, including NatWest and Lloyds Bank. Text messages have been sent to a number of Islanders telling them that their debit card has recently been used and asking them to call a fraud prevention number included in the message.

In a statement issued by the police, it says: ‘This number is not a fraud prevention number. The person on the end of the phone will ask for personal information such as bank account numbers and pin numbers.’

Emails have also been sent to Islanders asking for payment of an invoice. The police have warned that both the text messages and emails are scams.
