Neighbour injured after kitchen fire

A neighbour who had attempted to help put the fire out before emergency services arrived was treated for minor burns following the blaze just before 12.30 pm on Friday.

Two fire engines attended the incident, and two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus went into the smoke-filled property to put out the fire, which had been caused by a plastic tray being left on an electric hob. It caused damaged to the cooker and to the extraction unit above.

In a statement the Fire and Rescue Service said: ‘If cooking appliances are not in use, isolating the electrical supply at the socket is recommended. We would also like to urge anyone discovering an incident to get out, stay out, and call the fire service.’
