Income Support freeze to end with 2.9% rise

Deputy Susie Pinel has lodged a proposition which, if passed, would see all income support payments increased by 2.9 per cent – in line with inflation – with effect from 1 October.

The Income Support system provides financial help for individuals and families in Jersey on low income, including carers, disabled Islanders and those with long-term health condition.

In October 2015, the States voted to freeze income support payments at 2015 levels until October 2017 as part of the Medium Term Financial Plan.

The move came after Deputy Pinel was asked to make £10 million of savings in her department as the States sought to close a £145 million funding deficit.
