Last week Health Minister Andrew Green told politicians in the States that following advice from the Jersey Misuse of Drugs Advisory Council, he was now looking into whether certain medicinal cannabis products could be made legal.
The minister said he was considering the move after a report found that the drug had therapeutic benefits.
He added that any products would have to be prescribed by a doctor and made available through pharmacies. He added that he was investigating which products could be sourced and that smoking cannabis would not be legalised.
A number of European countries have now legalised cannabis for medicinal purposes. The minister warned that taking cannabis products to the UK and France would be illegal and they could face prosecution in those jurisdictions.
