Air Alderney is expected to start operating the routes, using two Britten Norman Islander aircraft, later this year.

And both its planes will be adorned with a livery based on Alderney’s most famous bird species, which lives in huge numbers on the small neighbouring island of Burhou.

Even without any marketing the company has been inundated with interest in their first two routes – Alderney to Jersey from September and Alderney to Cherbourg from October.

It is proposed that the Jersey services will run on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

An as yet unnamed retailer will sell tickets face-to-face and an online reservations system has also been identified.

Air Alderney will be able to fly with a single pilot around the Channel Islands but may have to have two pilots for Cherbourg and for a proposed route to Brighton.
