Navy commander from Jersey is made an OBE

Commander Judith Helen Terry has been recognised in the Queen’s New Year Honours list.

She told the JEP: ‘I was given the OBE for my performance on the Permanent Joint Headquarters staff. Firstly as a desk officer in the J5 Division with responsibility for ensuring the withdrawal from Helmand Province in Afghanistan was achieved on time, within allocated resources and on budget.

‘Subsequently I was employed as the military assistant to the Chief of Joint Operations and was able to provide him with support and was central to the smooth running of the HQ and the Defence Crisis Management Organisation.’

Her mother, Margaret, who lives in Grouville, said: ‘I am exceptionally proud, as is her sister, Caroline. Judith did not expect this award at all.’

Commander Terry was born in Jersey and grew up in St Clement. She attended JCG before studying at university in Dundee. After she graduated she began her training to join the Navy and has served for 19 years.

Commander Terry’s award was not included in a list issued to the media by Government House.
