Grand day out for Age Concern

After their annual carol concert, 50 group members met at the community centre next to St Thomas’ Church to be provided with a spread of Christmas treats and afternoon tea.

Grand Jersey Hotel general manager Martin Kelly said that loneliness and isolation could affect many elderly people, particularly so at this time of year.

‘Age Concern Jersey offers a lifeline of friendship for the older people in our community who may have little contact with family or friends,’ he added.

‘Events such as this bring people together and give everyone involved something to look forward to. We are delighted to be able to make this festive get-together even more special.’

Daphne Minihane, president of Age Concern Jersey, said that they were thrilled by the Christmas gesture and that the hotel staff had taken time to meet members and give them ‘an afternoon to remember at this special time of year’.
