Budget gets the go-ahead

After two days of debate, the States Assembly approved the 2017 Budget which sets out includes plans to spend more than £65 million on capital projects and proposes increases to the duty on alcohol, tobacco and fuel.

And Treasury Minister Alan Maclean said that the spending plans, combined with the Medium Term Financial Plan, will ensure the Island’s finances remain flexible to deal with any unforeseen challenges.

The sitting was the last States meeting of the year, with the Assembly set to reconvene on Tuesday 17 January.
