Fifty years after Tuula Hoeoek was found bludgeoned to death in a field in St Clement, a senior States police detective has said the 20-year-old could have been trying to avoid someone linked to the group in the weeks before she was killed.
During a ‘cold case’ review three years ago, the force revealed that Miss Hoeoek was seemingly running scared from a mystery in the month before her murder.
She suddenly quit her job as a waitress at the Southampton Hotel and was left spooked after receiving a call at her lodgings. She was so terrified she moved house and ordered her former landlords not to pass on her contact details.
Detective Chief Inspector Lee Turner, who led the review, said that her unusual behaviour may have been linked to the activities of an ‘informal network’ of sex workers who could have had connections to the Southampton Hotel. There is no suggestion that Miss Hoeoek was involved in prostitution.
Anyone with information, including with regard to Miss Hoeoek’s move to the Beach Road area of Havre des Pas in the days before she was killed, is asked to phone the States police on 612612 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, or email coldcase@jersey.police.pnn.uk
