After years of speculation and millions of pounds spent on reviews, including the assessment of more than 40 potential sites, Members voted 34 to three in favour of Senator Andrew Green’s £466 million development plans.

He is due to lodge a planning application for the new development next year.

Treasury Minister Alan Maclean this week announced proposals to fund the project by taking out a loan of up to £400 million and using cash in the States reserves. Those plans will be put before the States in January.

A proposal lodged by St John Constable Chris Taylor for the Waterfront to be considered as an alternative site and for the final vote on the preferred location to be delayed until next year was defeated by 29 votes to nine.

Summarising his proposition, Senator Green called on Members to work together to deliver the new hospital once his plans were approved.
