Following discussions with his counterparts at the British and Irish Council last week, Senator Philip Bailhache said that he had found ‘common ground’ with his Irish counterparts in that they would like to see their current border arrangements with the EU remain the same after the UK breaks its ties with Brussels.

Concerns have been raised that borders between Britain and the EU, such as Jersey’s ferry connection with France, may need to increase their security controls following Brexit.

Sir Philip said that the summit provided an opportunity to find out the aims of other governments around Britain and Ireland, which share an area of free movement called the Common Travel Area.
