Jeweller to donate riches hidden in old shop carpet

However, one Jersey company is hoping to find something of a little more value in its carpet, which has been gathering ‘gold dust’ over the past 15 years.

Aurum Jewellers Jersey is sending its workshop carpet to the UK, where a special machine will be used to extract the gold, silver and platinum shavings and dust which have become embedded in it during years of making jewellery.

Islanders are now being invited to guess the value in pounds of the specks of precious metal as part of a competition which will run until 28 November.
