However, Martyn Siodlak, clinical director at the Hospital, welcomed the news that after years of work, a formal proposition had now been lodged with the States laying out initial plans for a new hospital on the existing site.
If approved by the States and then Planning, a new hospital will be built on the existing site at an estimated cost of £466 million.
Earlier this year a consultation was aborted following a backlash over the shortlisting of the People’s Park as a possible site.
And in June, Health Minister Andrew Green revealed that his preferred location for the future hospital was a new building on the current site.
