UK cancer centre seeks help from Islanders

Work on the £1.7 million scheme to renovate and expand the Piam Brown unit at the children’s hospital began in April but extra funds are now needed to finish the project.

On average, one child from Jersey is flown to Southampton Hospital, which is one of 20 specialist paediatric oncology units in the UK, for treatment a month.

Dr Tim Malpas, consultant paediatrician at Jersey Hospital, said the team in Southampton provides a first-class service, but the enhanced and updated facilities will improve the experience for Jersey patients and their families.
