Unite the union, which has close ties to Deputy Mézec’s Reform Jersey political party, have said they fully intend to financially support the politician but the details will not be finalised until a committee meeting next week.

Nick Corbel, regional representative for Unite, said that following the meeting he would not disclose how much the union would be willing to invest but did say that it was far less than the £10,000 figure being touted on social media.

Fellow Senatorial hopeful Christian May said he was using an online crowdfunding page to help pay for his election push. More than £1,000 has been donated so far by nine backers. Candidates Sarah Ferguson, John Young, Nick Le Cornu, Mary O’Keeffe-Burgher, Mike Dun and Guy de Faye said they were funding their own campaigns.
