Last month officials travelled to France to look at the contraption, which uses a conveyor belt to pick up sea lettuce from the shoreline which is then collected in a large bucket at the rear of the machine.

Shortly after the visit, Deputy Eddie Noel announced his intention to trial the machine used in Brittany in Jersey, but due to logistical problems, those plans may not go ahead.
